Elixir Tango is a collaboration platform that helps you automate high-volume personalized communications. It’s web-based, so you can centralize, monitor and control the entire process. Tango consists of three user interface layers for line-of-business users, development teams and managers. The value of this industry-first approach is that you can easily divide tasks and pay license fees for exactly what you need. Tango provides the access, personalization capabilities and process automation. Users log in and work on tasks such as document design, content creation, content management, process logic, production instructions and so on, within the limits of their permissions and rights.

Tango’s collaborative, visual workflow helps you expedite business correspondence through multiple channels. In hours instead of days or weeks. The use of a single platform, instead of multiple correspondence systems, reduces complexity, lowers cost and allows you to leverage digital assets globally with control over brand and quality.

Customer communications—documents, emails, web pages or messages sent to mobile devices—are a business process between your company and your clients. Competitors may be wooing your customers, so take the offensive with timely, relevant communications that help build loyalty and satisfaction.

The Elixir Tango web-based collaboration platform builds on industry-standard products such as Elixir DesignPro and Elixir Opus. It facilitates the communication process in a unique way, with three distinct user interface layers that support different functions and multiple classes of users. Tango centralizes the entire document creation and production workflow. Users can log in from anywhere on the Internet and see and edit only what they are authorized to manage.

The user interface layers are:

Business Application Layer
This layer is visible to line-of-business users, and it allows them to create, manage and deliver personalized communications in a controlled way. This approach aligns user activities with your business interests. Each business application represents a specific departmental correspondence initiative—for example, marketing, customer support or human resources. Within each application, relevant correspondence types, such as letters, notices and postcards, are offered. Interfaces can be configured to guide business users through specific tasks, which are automated.

Each application is configured to offer only approved templates built for workflows that support specific business processes. In addition to the interactive creation of personalized communications, the applications support batch and on-demand workflows that can be delivered via print, web, email or mobile device.

Development Layer
The development layer, which consists of development modules, provides the foundation for the business application functionality. The modules include template creation, data processing, logic, production and delivery, and project definition.

A web-based environment for document programming, the development layer enables parallel collaboration resulting in faster turnaround times. Real-time visibility into projects allows authorized personnel to track projects, receive notifications based on specific events, and redirect workflow at any time. Users create applications and present them in the Business Application Layer interface with simplified, straightforward screens or move them directly into batch or on-demand production.

Management Layer
This layer provides a centralized point of control for the entire Tango system, including tools that span both business application and development layers. The tools control system access, task assignment, workflow monitoring and reporting. Additionally, the modules are used to establish the rules for how content is managed and used throughout the entire system. Users within your organization or external to your organization can log in from any computer or device with the appropriate log-in credentials.

The functions within the layers are delivered through the following components:

Design documents within a browser using a graphical, drag-and-drop interface. Use a comprehensive set of graphic layout tools to work with images and text, as well as variable fields and data elements. Users may start from templates or create new designs.

Supported key design features: Color, image layout, dynamic charts, barcodes, dynamic tables and n-up.

Data Manager
Create connections to external data sources of all types for mapping, data processing and delivery. Data from multiple sources and formats can be extracted, imported and prepared, then converted and exported for use across business applications, including non-Tango systems.

Supported import data formats: Any ODBC-compliant database (Microsoft® Access™, Microsoft SQL® Server, Oracle®, MySQL, Sybase® , IBM® DB2®, IBM DB2 for iSeries®, IBM DB2 for zSeries® ), and XML delimited (CSV) and fixed field.

Supported export data formats: CSV, fixed-length and XML.

Create the business rules that drive the final formatted output. Many business rules can be created by using a point-and-click process to identify what should occur based on an event, data value or other condition. Alternatively, Tango Logic supports script-level conditional logic, statements and operations. After the rules are created, they are presented as objects within the design environment where they can be placed onto a Tango layout. Rules can be made available for drag-and-drop onto Microsoft® Word documents and Adobe® InDesign® layouts.

Content Management
Manage any resource type or file, allowing users throughout the organization to contribute content into the system where it is versioned and made available in a central library. Users use appropriate content, and the system allows previous versions to be reassembled dynamically from their original elements.

Supported content format and functionality: Any file type can be managed in the system. Each can contain version information and associated metadata. Each file type can be checked in or out for editing in Tango or non-Tango applications, and each can be managed and used dynamically based on business rules.

Workflow Designer
Define key activities in the workflow with this visual tool. The activities can include individual task assignment; group activities, such as approval routing; and automated processes. The entire workflow can be managed and tracked from an administrative level with reports and status available in real time.

Supported workflow activities: Data tasks, logic creation, design, release management, proof, approvals, production output and general tasks.

Document Server for Archives
Store files in their original format for archival purposes. Tango indexes the text contained in the files along with associated metadata to provide a complete search mechanism. Archived files can be located to produce the original file for print or electronic distribution, or they can be used to present the file on demand in an environment such as customer service help desk. Tango’s workflow module can be used to set automated activities including file ingestion, conversions and other processes based on user configurations.

Supported archive formats: Advanced Function Presentation™ (AFP™), Adobe PDF, Adobe Postscript®, images, and Microsoft® Office® files.

Tango Implementation Options
Elixir Tango is available as a traditional on-premise solution or as software-as-a-service (SaaS). With either choice, the web-based architecture and browser access eliminates the need for your IT staff to manage software throughout your enterprise.
